No Longer A Slave

And because you are sons, God has sent forth the Spirit of His Son into your hearts, crying out, “Abba, Father!” Therefore you are no longer a slave but a son, and if a son, then an heir of God through Christ (Galatians 4:6-7).

A sonship mentality is different from a slave mentality. Slaves by nature do not belong to their parents, but sons and daughters do belong. Slaves are not accepted; sons and daughters are. Slaves are not qualified for inheritance, but sons and daughters are. Slaves are tied to a bond; sons and daughters are free. Slaves have no rights, as their slave masters have purchased their rights, but sons and daughters have birthrights.

Jesus came to rescue us from slavery. We were outcast, having no access to God. We were disconnected from the covenant. We were no people, Gentiles as it were, but Jesus came to change our status from slavery to adopted children of God through His finished work on Calvary.

But you are a chosen generation, a royal priesthood, a holy nation, His own special people, that you may proclaim the praises of Him who called you out of darkness into His marvelous light; who once were not a people but are now the people of God, who had not obtained mercy but now have obtained mercy (1 Peter 2:9-10).

Look at that! Verse 9 cannot be appreciated until you read verse 10. We can only further cherish our salvation when we know how we were before God rescued us. Every child of God who understands their placement in the Kingdom makes the devil mad as they proclaim their inheritance and birthright.

As long as we are ignorant, the devil keeps laughing, but with the light of the knowledge of God’s Word we will undoubtedly triumph over him. The greatest threat to our breakthrough is slave mentality! That is why now that we are born into the supernatural family of God, we must renew our minds. Renewal of our minds repositions us to enter into our inheritance in Christ.

We must submit our lives to the Holy Spirit and to the Word of God so that we can be purged from dead works. One of the works of the Holy Spirit is to teach us everything about the new life in Christ and to help us gain access into all that is freely ours.
